Flags are at half-staff today.
Following the news of former President Jimmy Carter's passing, Governor Hobbs released the following statement:
"President Jimmy Carter lived an exemplary life of service, positively impacting nearly every corner of the planet.
“Throughout his career as Governor of Georgia, President of the United States, and later founder of The Carter Center, President Carter was a steadfast advocate for peace and prosperity across the globe. He fought against segregation, promoted democracy, and helped eradicate two diseases.
“Above all, he was a loving husband to First Lady Rosalynn Carter. Their seventy-seven-year marriage is the epitome of partnership. Motivated by empathy and faith, they overcame every imaginable obstacle to build a better tomorrow. They will be missed but never forgotten.
“On behalf of the State of Arizona, we send our love to the Carter Family and the millions worldwide whose lives are better because of President Carter's legacy.”
Pursuant to a national order, U.S. and Arizona flags should fly at half-staff through sunset on Jan. 28, 2025 in honor of President Carter.
Governor Ducey has ordered that flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff immediately until sunset today, March 11, 2020, to honor the life of Tempe Firefighter Tommy Arriaga.

Governor Doug Ducey has ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on February 29, 2020, for the interment of White Mountain Apache Police Officer David Kellywood.
Officer Kellywood was killed in the line of duty while responding to a report of gunshots fired south of Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona. Officer Kellywood joined the department nine months ago after graduating from the police academy. Born in McNary, Arizona, Officer Kellywood was a member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
Businesses and individuals are encouraged to join in this tribute.

Our prayers are with Officer Kellywood’s wife, children and loved ones as well as the White Mountain Apache Tribe. In honor of Officer Kellywood’s life and service, I am ordering flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff.”

Governor Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, January 24, 2020, to honor First Officer Paul Hudson. A resident of Buckeye, AZ, Hudson was killed Wednesday in a plane crash while battling wildfires in New South Wales, Australia.
“First Officer Paul Hudson was a hero who represented Arizona’s very best,” said Governor Ducey. “A graduate of the Naval Academy, First Officer Hudson served 20 years in the United States Marine Corps before becoming a firefighter. Then, when duty called again, First Officer Hudson didn’t hesitate, putting his life on the line to help others battling wildfires in Australia. My sincere condolences go out to First Officer Hudson’s family and loved ones. And our prayers are with them and all Arizona’s firefighters providing aid in Australia.
“In honor of First Officer Hudson’s life and years of service, I’ve ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff.”

Governor Ducey has ordered that flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, December 7, 2019, in observance of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
Governor Doug Ducey released the following statement:
“When the American service members woke up that morning, December 7, 1941, ‘a date which will live in infamy,’ they were taken by surprise and vastly outgunned. But they did not shy from their duty. They fought back in one of the greatest displays of military courage and fortitude in our nation’s history. And their brave example would be carried forward by the more than 16 million Americans who left home to fight, and eventually secure victory, in World War II.“Nearly half of those who gave their lives at Pearl Harbor served aboard the USS Arizona — giving special meaning to this day in the hearts of all Arizonans. It is a day that changed the trajectory of our country forever. And today, we reflect, remember and honor the sacrifices made 78 years ago, while giving thanks to the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country in uniform.”
