Flags are at half-staff today.
Governor Katie Hobbs has ordered U.S. and Arizona flags to fly at half-staff to honor the life and legacy of Pope Francis. This order is in conjunction with President Donald Trump’s proclamation for flags to be lowered today through the day of interment.
Flags should immediately be lowered to half-staff and remain so through sunset on the day of interment, which is yet to be set.
Governor Hobbs made the following statement:
“I join Catholics across Arizona, and the world, in mourning the death of Pope Francis. He led the Church with humility and dignity, and was a voice for those who too often have none. We can all learn from his message of compassion and empathy for the least among us.”
Individuals, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.
In coordination with the Presidential proclamation, Governor Ducey has ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff immediately until sunset on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 in honor of the victims of the Virginia Beach shooting.“Our hearts are with the victims, their families and all those affected in the Virginia Beach shooting,” said Governor Ducey. “Arizona joins together in praying for the entire Virginia Beach community, and we thank the first responders who acted at the scene. In honor and memory of the victims of the shooting, I have ordered that flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff until sunset on Tuesday, June 4, 2019.” Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.Regards,Arizona Department of Administration

Governor Doug Ducey today ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset tomorrow, Thursday, May 23, 2019 to honor Phoenix Firefighter Brian Beck Jr. Firefighter Beck passed away after battling occupational-related cancer. Beck, a third-generation firefighter, served at the Phoenix Fire Department for eight years.
“Arizona is saddened by the loss of Firefighter Brian Beck Jr. and our prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time,” said Governor Ducey. “Brian was a dedicated member of the Phoenix Fire Department and lived a life of honor while serving and protecting Arizonans. In honor of Firefighter Beck’s life and service, I’ve ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff.”

Peace Officers Memorial Day pays tribute to the local, state, and federal peace offices who have died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty.As a tribute to the 14,500 sworn peace officers and 6,500 correctional officers in Arizona, Governor Doug Ducey has ordered that flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Wednesday, May 15, 2019for National Peace Officers Memorial Day. "Our peace officers choose a life and career of service and they are heroes in every sense of the word. They wake up every day, put on the uniform and badge and put themselves in harm’s way so that others might live in comfort and safety,” said Governor Ducey. “Arizona is grateful for these men and women in uniform who protect our communities and we come together to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Governor Doug Ducey ordered that flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset tomorrow, Tuesday, April 2, 2019, to honor the life of two United States Marine pilots, Major Matthew M. Wiegand and Captain Travis W. Brannon, who were killed in a helicopter crash during a training mission in Yuma, Arizona on Saturday. Flags will also be lowered on the day of interment, which has not been set.
“Arizona mourns the tragic loss of these two Marine Corps pilots,” said Governor Ducey. “Major Wiegand and Captain Brannon served our country honorably. We are incredibly grateful for their willingness to put on the uniform and put their lives on the line in order to keep our country safe. Our prayers are with their family and loved ones and the entire Marine community in Yuma during this time.”
