Flags are at half-staff today.

Governor Katie Hobbs has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, Dec. 21, the day of Town of Marana Mayor Ed Honea’s interment. Part of a five-generation Marana family, the longtime public servant passed away on Nov. 22, 2024. 

Governor Hobbs issued the following statement: 

“I offer my sincere condolences on the passing of Mayor Ed Honea, a devoted leader who dedicated nearly 40 years to Marana. His unwavering service and deep love for the community will leave a lasting legacy for generations. My heart goes out to his family during this difficult time.”

Individuals, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.

In coordination with the Presidential proclamation, Governor Hobbs has ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff immediately through sunset May 11, 2023 in honor of the victims of the tragedy in Allen, Texas.

Governor Katie Hobbs ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Monday, May 1, in honor of Arizona Peace Officers Memorial Day.

"Today, we honor and mourn the loss of Arizona's Peace Officers who in the last year have made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Governor Hobbs. "Our law enforcement professionals put their lives on the line everyday to keep us safe and their dedication to service will have a lasting impact on the entire state. My sincere condolences to the families of these fallen heroes, your loved ones will never be forgotten."

In coordination with the Presidential proclamation, Governor Hobbs has ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff immediately through sunset March 31, 2023 in honor of the victims of the tragedy in Nashville, Tennessee.

Governor Hobbs released the following statement: 

“As flags across our state and our country are lowered for the six victims of school gun violence in Nashville, we mourn their loss, along with all others killed by gun violence. Our schools should be safe places for students and teachers, this could have and should have been prevented."

Governor Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff sunrise to sunset tomorrow, Wednesday, December 21, in honor of fallen firefighter Mark Fowl.

Mark was a veteran firefighter with the Glendale Fire Department, serving the department for nearly 20 years. He died after a yearlong battle with brain cancer.

“Arizona is saddened by the loss of Firefighter Mark Fowl,” said Governor Ducey. “Mark battled brain cancer with the same strength and courage that he showed Arizonans everyday, protecting our communities. He will be remembered for his bravery. Mark’s colleagues remember him as a beloved member of the team with a warmness and care. Our hearts are with Mark’s wife, two children, friends and colleagues during this time of mourning. In his honor, all flags will be lowered to half-staff Wednesday, December 21.”
