Flags are at full staff.

Governor Brewer has ordered that flags at state offices be lowered on Friday, May 6, 2011 from sunrise to sunset in honor of Officer Rolando Tirado who was slain May 1, 2011.  Officer Tirado was shot and killed while he and another officer attempted to break up a disturbance while working an off-duty security detail at a business in the City of Phoenix.  Officer Tirado had served with the Buckeye Police Department for seven years and had served in law enforcement for an additional four years. Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.

Governor Brewer has ordered that flags be lowered to half- staff from sunrise to sunset on May 9, 2011, in honor of CO II Petrie who was killed in a traffic accident late yesterday while enroute to the Department of Corrections' Cimarron Unit. 

Officer Petrie was a 15 year veteran with the Department.  He had only recently returned to work after a 2-year stateside deployment with the Marine Corps Reserves.  Governor Brewer offers her prayers and condolences to the entire family of Officer Petrie.

Governor Brewer has ordered that flags at state offices be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in honor of Captain Nathan J. Nylander.  Governor Brewer previously ordered flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on April 29, 2011, in honor of Capt. Nylander who was killed in action April 27 and who died of wounds suffered from gunfire.  Cap Nylander was assigned to the 25th Operational Weather Squadron, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.   Individuals, businesses, private organizations and other government agencies are encouraged to join in this tribute.

Governor Brewer ordered that flags at state offices be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, May 15, 2011 in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

In accordance with a Presidential proclamation, Peace Officers Memorial Day is observed in conjunction with Police Week, May 15-21, and is held in honor of all federal, state and local law enforcement officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. 

Gov. Brewer encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.

Governor Brewer has ordered that flags at state offices be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, May 20, 2011 in honor of Agents Clark and Rojas. Governor Brewer previously ordered the flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset May 12, 2011 in honor of Agents Rojas and Clark who died May 12 after their SUV was struck by a train near Interstate 8 in the Gila Bend area.  Agents Rojas and Clark were assisting other officials in pursuing a group of suspected drug smugglers.  Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.
