Governor Katie Hobbs has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday, April 22, 2024 and on day of interment, in memory of former Speaker Jim Weiers, who passed away on Friday.
Speaker Weiers was a longtime public servant, serving terms in both the House and Senate from 1994 to 2013. He was Speaker of the House from 1999-2001 and from 2005-2009. He was an engaging storyteller with a heart for servant leadership.
Governor Hobbs issued the following statement:
“I am saddened to hear of the passing of Speaker Weiers, a man who worked tirelessly for his community and who was a champion of maintaining positive bipartisan relationships in order to better serve the people of Arizona. Our thoughts are with his wife Gina and his entire family during this difficult time. I have ordered flags to fly at half-staff on Monday and on the day of his interment to honor his life and legacy.”
Half-staff for the day of interment will be communicated once the date is finalized.
Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.
