Following the news of former President Jimmy Carter's passing, Governor Hobbs released the following statement:
"President Jimmy Carter lived an exemplary life of service, positively impacting nearly every corner of the planet.
“Throughout his career as Governor of Georgia, President of the United States, and later founder of The Carter Center, President Carter was a steadfast advocate for peace and prosperity across the globe. He fought against segregation, promoted democracy, and helped eradicate two diseases.
“Above all, he was a loving husband to First Lady Rosalynn Carter. Their seventy-seven-year marriage is the epitome of partnership. Motivated by empathy and faith, they overcame every imaginable obstacle to build a better tomorrow. They will be missed but never forgotten.
“On behalf of the State of Arizona, we send our love to the Carter Family and the millions worldwide whose lives are better because of President Carter's legacy.”
Pursuant to a national order, U.S. and Arizona flags should fly at half-staff through sunset on Jan. 28, 2025 in honor of President Carter.
Governor Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset today, October 12, 2021, to honor Maricopa County Sheriff’s Deputy Juan M. Ruiz, who was attacked by a felony suspect last week.
Deputy Ruiz was injured in an attack while attempting to process a suspect for a felony warrant. The suspect assaulted Deputy Ruiz and left him unconscious and fled the scene. After a manhunt the suspect was apprehended by authorities after being shot in another altercation. Deputy Ruiz was transported to the hospital and put on life support, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
“Arizona is heartbroken over the loss of Deputy Juan M. Ruiz,” said Governor Ducey. “He served our state honorably for years, and his dedication to protecting others continues with the donation of his organs. He will always be remembered for his selfless sacrifice — and my deepest prayers are with Deputy Ruiz’s family and loved ones, as well as the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the entire law enforcement community. I’ve ordered flags be lowered to half-staff in honor of his life and service.”

Governor Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset tomorrow, September 22, in honor of Representative Frank Pratt, a long-time public servant who passed away today.
“Representative Frank Pratt was a champion of rural Arizona,” said Governor Ducey. “He was a staunch supporter of economic development, an advocate for workforce training programs and someone who believed in the necessity of developing sound water policy. In both chambers of the Arizona Legislature, he was unwaveringly dedicated to serving the people of Arizona and expanding opportunities.
“He did it all — public servant, business owner, rancher, farmer and family man. He was one of the good guys, and we’re lucky he called Arizona home. Representative Pratt was asked once why he went into politics. His answer was simple and straightforward: he said he was ‘just trying to make Arizona a better place.’
“My deepest condolences are with Representative Pratt’s wife Janice, his family, his colleagues at the legislature, his fellow community members in Pinal and Gila Counties, and everyone who has been touched by his everlasting legacy. In memory of Representative Pratt, and in honor of his years of service to our state, I’ve ordered flags be lowered to half-staff.”
Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.
