Governor Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset tomorrow, September 22, in honor of Representative Frank Pratt, a long-time public servant who passed away today.
“Representative Frank Pratt was a champion of rural Arizona,” said Governor Ducey. “He was a staunch supporter of economic development, an advocate for workforce training programs and someone who believed in the necessity of developing sound water policy. In both chambers of the Arizona Legislature, he was unwaveringly dedicated to serving the people of Arizona and expanding opportunities.
“He did it all — public servant, business owner, rancher, farmer and family man. He was one of the good guys, and we’re lucky he called Arizona home. Representative Pratt was asked once why he went into politics. His answer was simple and straightforward: he said he was ‘just trying to make Arizona a better place.’
“My deepest condolences are with Representative Pratt’s wife Janice, his family, his colleagues at the legislature, his fellow community members in Pinal and Gila Counties, and everyone who has been touched by his everlasting legacy. In memory of Representative Pratt, and in honor of his years of service to our state, I’ve ordered flags be lowered to half-staff.”

Governor Ducey is calling for the flags at all state buildings to be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, September 11, 2021 in observance of Patriot Day. Congress has designated September 11th of each year as "Patriot Day", a national day of remembrance for the innocent victims who lost their lives and in honor of the families they left behind.Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.

Governor Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff through August 30, 2021, in honor of the U.S. service members killed during the terrorist attack in Kabul, Afghanistan. Arizonans are encouraged to participate in this tribute.
The Governor released the following statement:
“Today is a tragic day for our nation. I am sending my deepest condolences and prayers to the loved ones of the U.S. forces killed and wounded in today’s terrorist attack in Kabul, Afghanistan. I am horrified by this attack on our brave service members as well as other innocent civilians in the area.
“Arizona joins all Americans in condemning this attack in the strongest possible terms. There are no words to express the depth of Americans’ sorrow and anger for this loss of life.
“As we mourn the dead, we must also recognize the context for this terrible attack. American troops have fought, bled, and died in Afghanistan for two decades to keep this country from once again becoming a safe haven for terrorists. We are now seeing in real-time how the recent action to withdraw from Afghanistan has made America and the world less safe.”

Governor Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset tomorrow, August 5, 2021, to honor Tucson sector U.S. Border Patrol Agent Daniel P. Cox, who died in a head-on collision on Saturday while on duty.
“Arizona is devastated by the loss of Border Patrol Agent Daniel Cox,” said Governor Ducey. “He dedicated more than 20 years to protecting our nation, and his service has helped create a safer environment for our border communities and all Arizonans. My prayers are with Agent Cox’s loved ones and Southern Arizona’s law enforcement community at this difficult time. I’ve ordered state flags be lowered to half-staff in honor of his life, service and bravery.”
Agent Daniel P. Cox and a civilian died in a two-vehicle collision at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, July 31 on State Route 86 near Sells.

Governor Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday, July 13, 2021, to honor two wildland firefighting aircraft personnel who died Saturday in an airplane crash.
Air Tactical Group Supervisor Jeff Piechura and pilot Matthew Miller tragically died as they engaged in wildland firefighting operations on the Cedar Basin Fire in northwest Arizona.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jeff Piechura and Matthew Miller, who were carrying out their mission on the Cedar Basin Fire in service of the people of Arizona,” said Governor Ducey. “My deepest condolences go to the Piechura and Miller families, their loved ones and colleagues. The memory of these brave, selfless firefighters will live on. Our prayers are with them and all of Arizona’s wildland firefighters serving in the face of danger to keep their fellow Arizonans safe.”
