Governor Katie Hobbs has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, January 26, 2024 and on Saturday, February 3, 2024 (day of interment), in honor of Safford Mayor Jason Kouts, who passed away on January 24, 2024.  
“I am saddened to hear of the passing of Mayor Jason Kouts. He was a beloved leader of the Safford community, born and raised in the Gila Valley and spent his life in service to others. My deepest condolences go out to his family, loved ones and the residents of Safford.  I’ve ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in his honor and memory on Friday, January 26 and on the day of interment, February 3," said Governor Katie Hobbs.
