Flags are at half-staff today.
Governor Hobbs has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff immediately until sunset on the day of interment, as a mark of respect for the memory of retired Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor who passed away on Friday, Dec. 1. Day of interment will be announced at a later date. Governor Hobbs issued the following statement: "Justice Sandra Day O’Connor put people above all else and created an eternal legacy that will forever be ingrained in the fibers of our state and nation’s history.On behalf of the State of Arizona, I send my deepest sympathies to her family, loved ones & everyone touched by her trailblazing legacy." Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.
Governor Brewer has ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, March 21, 2013 in honor of CPO Pike. Governor Brewer previously ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Friday, March 15th in honor of CPO Pike who died March 13, 2013, in Landstuhl, Germany as a result of combat-related injuries. CPO Pike incurred the fatal injuries on March 10th while conducting stability operations in Maiwand District, Afghanistan. Governor Brewer has ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, March 30, 2013 in honor of Special Warfare Operator Chief Brett D. Shadle, a member of Navy SEAL Team 6, who was killed Thursday during a parachute training exercise in southern Arizona when he and another SEAL collided in midair. Governor Brewer previously ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in honor of Officer Huffman. Officer Huffman, a 14-year veteran of the DPS Yuma Office, was killed Monday, May 6, 2013 while investigating an accident on Interstate 8 near the Yuma foothills. Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.
